Lunatics and Maids

Ah, political correctness!!

A few weeks ago, Thomas Mattox, the New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance, amended the New York State tax regulations.  What formerly were "maid" services in hotels are henceforth to be referred to as "housekeeping" services.

Not to be outdone, today the Senate has passed, for the President's signature, the 21st Century Language Act of 2012, which strikes the word "lunatic" from the federal statutes and regulations.  [It is parenthetically noted that New York Surrogate's Court Judge Kristin Booth Glen recently delivered an opinion in Matter of John J. H. wherein she expounds upon the difference between an idiot and a lunatic.].

When the legislature or the tax collectors lack the will to tackle the difficult problems of budget and taxation, they almost invariably will turn their attention to some political correctness cause.

And, pray tell, what terminology can we now use to refer to the putzheads sitting under the Dome in Washington?
